Who was/is Evelyn Knight ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

Born Evelyn Davis in Reedville, Virginia, the chanteuse sang in Washington, D.C. clubs in her teens as Honey Davis before marrying photographer Andrew Knight and amending her surname. She debuted on Decca in 1945 with the Top Ten seller Dance With A Dolly (With A Hole In Her Stocking). Cut November 16, 1948, Powder Your Face With Sunshine cracked the pop charts just before year’s end, fending off competition from Sammy Kaye, Dean Martin, and Doris Day.  Co-writer Carmen Lombardo sang with older brother Guy’s Royal Canadians. The Stardusters also recorded with Glenn Miller, Jack Teagarden, and Billie Holiday and scored their own hits with Brother Bill and This Is No Laughing Matter. Evelyn’s last hit in 1951 was a duet version of My Heart Cries For You with country singer Red Foley.
