Bert Kaempfert was born on 16.10.1923 in Hamburg. He studied piano, clarinet, saxophone and accordion at the music school in Hamburg. He began his professional career as a saxophonist in the radio orchestra of Gdansk. After the war, Bert Kaempfert played with his first big band in the British officers' clubs in northern Germany. Beginning in the late 1940s, Kaempfert began composing and arranging.
In 1959 he produced the title Wunderland bei Nacht, but could not find a record company for it in Germany. The title was first released in the U.S. and climbed to No. 1 on the U.S. charts. Bert Kaempfert
Hamburg orchestra chief, arranger and composer was born in Hamburg on 16 October 1923 and was the most successful German composer and orchestra chief after the Second World War before James Last. He began his career as a saxophonist in the orchestra of the Gdansk Radio Orchestra Hans Busch.
After the war Bert Kaempfert tingelte through English soldier clubs in Northern Germany. His first hits as producer and arranger were "Die Gitarre und das Meer" (Freddy, 1959) and "Morgen' (Ivo Robic, 1959). 1960 followed his own world hit "Wunderland bei Nacht', with which he achieved fame, success and gold records in the USA. "Afrikaan Beat' (1962), "A swingin' Safari' and "Red Roses for a blue Lady' were no less successful. As a composer he was responsible for the top hits "Spanish Eyes' (Al Martino, 1966) and "Strangers in the Night' (Frank Sinatra, 1966). But Bert Kaempfert missed his biggest chance in 1962, when he produced "My Bonnie' with the English singer Tony Sheridan.
At that time Bert Kaempfert engaged the still unknown Beatles, who were looking for a record deal. As "Beat Brothers' they played on the record. More than one LP did not come out of this short collaboration - today it is on the market as "Beatles in Hamburg' and helped the Beatles to a record deal at that time.
