(2000 'APO Records') (59:36/12) Viele Jahre war er Gitarrist in den Bands von Clifton und, später, dessen Sohn C.J. Chenier. Nun, mit 63, arbeitet er auf eigene Rechnung und präsentiert sein Debütalbum. Nichts Hektisches wird man hier finden. Big Daddy's Blues ist dezent, elegant und unaufdringlich. Seine gefühlevolle Art, Gitarre zu spielen, kommt bei den zahlriechen langsamen Nummern schön zur Geltung. Sein Gesang ist rauh und etwas brüchig, doch ausdrucksstark. Die Aufnahme klar und durchsichtig. Ein richtig schönes, wenngleich wenig spektakuläres Album / finally he had followed the call of Clifton Chenier, the king of zydeco. Today, he's working with Clifton's son, C.J. from time to time. But aged 63, he's also fronting his own band. This is debut recording. A simple, decent and elegant album. You won't feel any pressure or tension. This one's laid back, as is his guitar playing. Easy. His vocals are soulful and sound a little broken. The recording is excellent.
