Live Before Insanity" is Gov't Mule's fifth album, released in 2000 to the cheers of all the critics. Warren Haynes and Allen Woody got together with Matt Abts in a power trio after they left the Allman Brothers Band.

Highlights on this album are the haunting title track, the powerful "Wandering Child", "No Need To Suffer" and "Lay Your Burden Down" (the last two featured vocals Ben Harperi).
The most popular track turned out to be "Bad Little Doggie", a firecracker ? la ZZ Top, which got a lot of airplay.

Life Before Insanity was the last album with bassist Allen Woody, who died tragically only six months after the album was released.
