Lee Gates: Black Lucy's Deuce
Second release by the guitarist/vocalist that has been active for the past fifty years. A cousin of Albert Collins', one day he called producer Tim Duffy. He was near the Music Maker Headquarters and wanted to record an album. So Duffy arranged for a session. Gates wrote all the songs on the spot. These recordings were made within a few hours, no overdubs. Gates' an incredible guitar player with a great tone, but a rather weak vocalist with a pretty broken voice. Still, this remains a fine album due to the feel of the record and the interplay between Gates and Cool John. LEE GATES - gtr/voc, 'COOL' JOHN FERGUSON - gtr, SOL - bass, ARDIE DEAN - drums.
