Who was/is Fireballs ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

The Fireballs

The Fireballs came from Raton, New Mexico, with the exception of pianist Jimmy Gilmer, a native of Illinois. Guitarist George Tomsco, bass-player Stan Lark, drummer Eric Budd and Gilmer formed the group in 1959. They were man-aged by Norman Petty, who used the Fireballs to overdub various Holly demo tracks in the early Sixties.

As the Fireballs, the band had four American hits in the years 1959-61, starting with 'Torquay' they reappeared in 1968-9 with three more successes. The 1961 hit, 'Quite A Party', also scored in Britain. As Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs they had an American No. 1 in 1963 with 'Sugar Shack', following this with two minor hits.
