His movies 'Loving You' and 'Jailhouse Rock' set standards for the genre Rock'n'Roll movies. 'King Creole' and 'Wild In The Country' are more fine examples showing youngsters problems in the world of crime and juvenile delinquency. 'Flaming Star' deals with the problems of a half breed sitting between the chairs of white racists and native Indians. This is so much more than just easy entertainment! To compare Elvis' movies of the sixties can only be done in relation to same genre movies from the same period.
Did you ever see movies by the Beatles, Cliff Richard or those beach party goodies with Annette Funicello? Well, now Elvis makes a great character! Elvis movies are much underrated as they are simply great, man! Even movies with a boring script are watchable due to Elvis way of acting and of course his soundtrack recordings. Ever since his death, you could escape the notorious summer heat by reclining on your sofa in a cool living room and get lost in an ultimate Elvis movie marathon. Simple or no plots; great music; and colors beyond psychedelic comprehension: truly the work of fantasy and the fast buck. Somehow the films are soothing and amusing – are they to be taken seriously? Are they trashy? We don't ask royalty such questions!
