Omar Dykes & Jimmie Vaughan: On The Jimmy Reed Highway
Originally, Jimmie Vaughan had been invited to play guitar on a couple of tunes. But -- according to label boss Thomas Ruf -- everybody had so much fun in the studio that the concept was changed to a double-feature project. Omar's concentrating on his deep mumbling vocal style, whereas Jimmie contributes almost all guitar tracks, acoustic and electric. This is a pure fun record paying tribute to one of the most influential and successful bluesmen of all times. But it also takes hat off to Eddie Taylor, Reed's guitar player. It was Eddie who invented the Jimmy Reed style beat, and Eddie has influenced an armada of blues guitarist, including Jimmie V. and Ronnie Earl. This is one of the geatest Texas blues albums I have had the pleasure to listen to in a long, long while. Highly recommended. OMAR DYKES - voc/gtr, JIMMIE VAUGHAN - gtrs, DEREK O'BRIEN - gtr, RONNIE JAMES - bass, WES STARR - drums. Special guests: KIM WILSON - hca, LOU-ANN BARTON -voc, JAMES COTTON - hca, GARY PRIMICH - hca, DELBERT McCLINTON - voc/hca, etc.
