Bear Family's 'The Precious Years' compilation takes you with 34 tracks to the times of 'High School Dances', 'Sock Hops', 'College Parties', 'Record Hops', 'Pyjama Parties' and 'Senior Proms'.

Besides the well-known teen idols like Ricky Nelson, Tommy Sands, Paul Anka, Eddie Cochran and Pat Boone, there are many performers who didn't belong to the classic 'teen idols', but who tried to get their piece of the cake on the competitive teen market. They did not always succeed, but qualitatively they were not inferior to the 'experts' of this profession. Lesser known performers in this genre included Lefty Frizzell, Marty Robbins, Jimmy Donley, Marvin Rainwater and Glenn Reeves to name but a few who were not typical representatives of teenage rock 'n' roll.

Eine Zeitreise zu den Milchshakes, Eisbechern, Pizzerien, Malzzapfhähnen und Autokinos.

Hier ist nichts zu wild oder rau, einfach nur unbeschwerter Toe-tapping- und uptempo Rock’n’Roll und ein paar verträumte Balladen aus der Goldenen Teenagerzeit, interpretiert von jungen Sängern, die wussten, wie man Stimmung inszeniert. Das ist die Art von großartiger Popmusik, die man auf den Partys jener Jahre hören konnte. Wir nehmen Sie mit auf eine Zeitreise zu den Milchshakes, Eisbechern, Pizzerien, Malzzapfhähnen und Autokinos.

Die besten Jahre meiner Musik.

Ja, sie waren, was die Rock & Pop – Musik anbetrifft, die besten Jahre meines Lebens: die späten 1950er und frühen 1960er Jahre. Alles war neu: der Rock’n’Roll, das damit verbundene, neue Lebensgefühl, die neue Freiheit. Aufgewachsen in der damaligen französischen Besatzungszone war es nicht leicht, an englischsprachige Platten heranzukommen, allenfalls hatten die Plattenläden (außer den zahlreichen deutschsprachigen Interpreten) die No 1- Hits der No 1-Stars der damaligen Zeit auf Lager: Bill Haley, Pat Boone, Little Richard und, und, und. Und ? War’s das, möchte man fragen ? Nein, auf der hier vorliegenden CD „The Precious Years“ werden uns Interpreten und Songs aus der Zeit von 1957 bis 1962 vorgestellt, von denen ich die allermeisten bisher nie gehört habe. Zwar sind uns oft die Namen der Interpreten schon bekannt, die Titel jedoch nicht. Da ich damals keinen „Hausball“ („Party’s gab es damals noch nicht) ausgelassen hatte, zu dem ich eingeladen war – diese Titel, die uns Bear Family hier auf CD präsentiert, waren jedenfalls in meiner Gruppe nicht bekannt. Schade eigentlich, denn es ist nicht irgendwelche B-Ware, sondern sehr gute Rock’n’Roll Musik inclusive ihrer Balladen, die hier eingespielt sind.
Diese CD ist also etwas zum Kennenlernen und dass das Ganze auch noch in hervorragender Tonqualität daherkommt, das braucht man bei Bear Family-Produkten eigentlich nicht mehr eigens zu erwähnen. Es ist so!
Mir jedenfalls war die CD „The Precious Years“ eine echte Bereicherung, die ich gerne weiterempfehlen möchte.
