Melodrama on microgroove was Homer Denison Jr.’s 1959 contribution to Brunswick’s catalog. Chickie Run was the white-knuckled tale of a two-car race sporting hot rod and siren sound effects, a somber spoken introductory warning, and a moralistic climax. Denison wrote his fable with Hugh Halliday. According to a ‘Billboard’ review, the song had a “tie-in with the National Safety Council” and earned release in Canada and Australia. The same duo wrote the flip, March Slav Boogie, an eerie piano instrumental with classical roots.
