New Country

Modern Country Music - Contemporary Country Artists

The so-called, ‚Modern Country‘  was created in the mid-1970s and was and is strongly inspired by contemporary Pop Music. In the 1970s and 1980s, Country Music became more and more part of the Pop charts and was successfully represented there by artists like Conway Twitty, Don Williams, Kenny Rogers, Ronnie Milsap and John Denver, to name a few. ‚Modern Country‘ music sounds much softer than the traditional Country music and was and is still mostly produced in Nashville, Tennessee.

In the 1990s, it was mostly artists from the 'neo-traditional' corner, such as Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Colin Raye, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Trisha Yearwood, and LeAnn Rimes, who turned almost completely to mainstream Pop and the boundaries between Modern Country music and contemporary Pop Music weren’t almost audible anymore

The big record companies wanted to cover the ‚Pop Music' area with this strategy, but ultimately failed due to the listening habits of the 'pop music' audience. The result was that  modern Country Music is almost disappeared with few exceptions, from the Pop Music market and the current country Charts today are split into traditional and more pop music-influenced country music.
