"Alma Cogan"

Geboren am 19. 5. 1932 im Londoner Stadtteil Golders Green als Alma Angela Cogan. Nach einer Absage durch den renommierten Bandleader Ted Heath erhielt sie 1951 einen Plattenvertrag von Walter Ridley (A&R-Mann bei EMI - HMV). Er baute die hochtalentierte Sängerin behutsam auf: Erst 1953 durfte sie ins Studio, bereits 1954 war mit dem 'Bell Bottom Blues' der erste Hit (Nr. 4) im Kasten. Im Jahr darauf schaffte sie mit 'Dreamboat' ihre einzige Nr.1 in England. Bis 1966 Veröffentlichte Cogan rund 60 Singles, von denen 21 die Top 50 der UK-Charts erreichten. Eine ihrer letzten Aufnahmen, 'Snakes And Snails', produzierte Chris Curtis von den Searchers 1965. Unter dem Pseudonym Angela And The Fans spielte im selben Jahr “Love Ya, lllya' ein (Tribute-Song für David McCallum aus der TV-Serie 'Solo für O.N.C.E.L.' - 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'). Als Alma Cogans Erfolge in England ausblieben, verlagerte sie ihre Aktivitäten aufs europäische Festland- besonders interessierte Fan-Gemeinden gab es in Deutschland, wo sie fünf Singles aufnahm. Während einer Tournee durch Schweden brach die Sängerin hinter der Bühne zusammen. Am 26. 10. 1966 verstarb sie im Londoner Middlesex Hospital an einem Krebsleiden. Noch am Anfang des Jahres war sie Gast in „Musik aus Studio B' (ARD, 14.2.) und „Hör hin - schau zu' (ZDF, 18.4.) gewesen. Aus dem Bear Family Buch - 1000 Nadelstiche von Bernd Matheja - BFB10025 -
