Earl Bostic: 14 Hits

Earl Bostic's career with King Records spanned twenty years and nearly as many albums. Although he basically recorded "standards", many of his original instrumentals were retitled to capitalize on the "Bossa Nova” fad of the mid sixties.

Earl Bostic first learned to play the clarinet in his home town of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He gave up his job as a grammar school teacher to be a musician, but soon left the road to get further musical training at Xavier University in New Orleans. He studied harmony, composing, theory, arranging and the brass reed and string instruments.

He formed a combo and was booked for one week's work at Small's Paradise in New York City and was held over for four weeks. Lionel Hampton picked Earl to join his sextet along with Teddy Wilson, Sid Catlett, and J.C. Higginbotham. He served as arranger for Paul Whiteman, Louis Prima, and Cab Calloway.

In 1945 he started on his own again and joined the King Records artist roster and Earl Bostic became one of the great instrumental artists of the fifties and one of the great saxophonists of all time. This vinyl-album features Bostic's early hits which have never before appeared in album form as well as material previously unreleased
