Blues On Vinyl

Blues appears to be the flavor of the month. Most classic LP releases from the 1950s, and 1960s have been re-issued, most of them on high-quality 180gram vinyl. On our own Bear Family label, we have re-released on vinyl one of the rarest and very hard-to-find collector’s classics: Frank Frost & The Night Hawks – Hey Boss Man! Extremely cool Southern down home blues,

originally produced by Sun Records founder Sam Phillips during the early 1960s, and originally released on his then newly established Phillips International record label.
Only recently, Bear Family has released the 180gram version of a true soul/blues classic: Etta James – Tell Mama. This album is regarded one of the greatest soul/blues albums, ever! It was recorded at the famous Fame Studios in Alabama in 1967, and it contains the Blues standard and one of the finest female vocal pieces, I’d Rather Go Blind! At present, most classic blues albums, originally released on LP during the 1950s and 1960s, are back in print: Sonny Boy Williamson'slegendary ‚Rockin’ Chair’ album, the provocative ‚Electric Mud’ album by Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Reed’s VeeJay LPs, a.m.o.
But on www.bear-family.com you will also find rarities, original LPs from the 1980s, released when the interest in vinyl LPs was on the decline as most collectors suddenly favored the new digital format, compact disc. But the Bear Family blues catalog is offering a lot more than classics and rarities. Most of today’s new blues productions are released on both formats, on CD and on high-quality vinyl. In the blues/rock category, most releases are also available on LP.
The vinyl revitalization of the Blues is amazing. Come on, honestly: Isn’t it a lot more fun to listen to Blues played on a turntable?!
