The United States of America. Somewhere on the prairie in the Midwest. A dusty landscape, characterized by too much sun and too little water. That's where Black River Delta comes from. One might think. In fact, the home of Erik Jacobs, Erik Nilsson and Pontus Ohlsson is quite the opposite of the John Wayne romance. The central Swedish idyll rather impresses with lush vegetation and plenty of rainfall. That's exactly where the three men recorded their debut album "Devil On The Loose", in the depths of the Swedish perma forest, where there are more moose than people.

And yet the raw blues of Black River Delta sounds so honestly like the wild west, the stories of Erik Jacobs so much like material for Quentin Tarantino's next western screenplay. Two guitars, a drum kit and now and then a good pinch of harmonica provide the sound, which sometimes strives in the direction of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or The Dead Weather, but at other times rather nestles up to Robert Johnson and R.L. Burnside.
