JIMMY BENNETT and The NEGLIGEES

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On

One of the most popular bands playing at high schools and clubs in Phoenix was Jimmy Bennett and The Negligees. They started playing in 1962 at Carl Hayden High School with the leader Bennett on vocal and Mike Noriega on lead guitar. The band's first record, a raucous cover of Whole Lotta Shakin', was financed by Bennett's mother and was the first of four records released on the Lancer label between 1963 and 1966. The flip side, Trying To Get To You, is another cover, this time of the obscure 1950s R&B group song by The Eagles (later recorded by Elvis Presley, Rick Nelson and Roy Orbison). Another great record to look for by this band is the Ramrod-style instrumental Contagious.
