Who was/is Backsters ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

The Backsters were a Rhythm 'n' Blues duo (saxophone and drums) which operated in the 1980s. The sax man Joel C. Peskin aka iReedMan, started playing the clarinet at the 9 in Brooklyn N.Y.

After graduating from the High School of the Performing Arts, which was made famous in the movie 'Fame', Joel studied saxophone with Sax teacher, Joseph Allard, from the Juilliard School of Music, and was a protégé and close friend of Jazz Saxophonist Roland Kirk. Since then, he has: Toured with Barbara Streisand on her 'Millenium' and 'Timeless' tours. Two US tours with the Beach Boys (playing the famous alto sax solo on their monster hit 'Kokomo') Featured sax player in the 'American Idol' band Featured sax player and original band member on 'Dancing with the Stars' for 16 seasons.

His torrid alto sax solo on the theme song for 'Entertainment Tonight' is still heard by millions of TV viewers every week day. Peskin’s work can be heard on hundreds of scores of feature films and television shows He has played on the records of artists ranging from Frank Zappa to Jack Jones.
