Who was/is Paul Anka ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more
Born on July 30, 1941 in Ottawa, Canada. Received a record contract from ABC Records as early as 1956. At 16, with his own composition "Diana" - allegedly about his former babysitter - he immediately achieved a world hit that sold around ten million copies. Paul Anka became one of the most popular teen idols of the USA, settled between the house-trained Pat Boone and the notorious youth spoiler Elvis Presley. During the 1950s, Paul Anka placed eleven more times in the US charts (including the classics "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" and "You Are My Destiny").
Until 1969 the top song writer was represented with 25 more singles in the American hit lists and also appeared in thematically so different US cinema films like "Girls Town" ("Blonde Locken, scharfe Krallen", 1959), "Look In Any Window" ("Im Taumel der Sinne", 1960). and "The Longest Day" ("The Longest Day", 1961) ' in convincing roles. As a lyricist he also gained world acclaim with "My Way" (Frank Sinatra), as a composer - lyricist with "She's A Lady" (Tom Jones). Until 1990 Paul Anka was still 16 times in the US charts. He sang with nine German-speaking singles, which were first recorded in the USA, later in Berlin and Cologne. In 1993 he joined the "Songwriters' Hall Of Fame" because of his merits as a composer. In their issue no. 5 - 1962 the customer magazine "Leg auf" reported that Paul Anka allegedly also wanted to record his top hit "Diana" in German. Apparently, however, this did not happen.
For eight (I) more original songs of the singer there were already published German lyrics in a songbook: "Eso Beso" ("Eso Beso"), "I am so alone" ("Lonely Boy"), "I still love you so much" ("I Love You In The Same Old Way"), "Mandolin and red wine" ("A Steel Guitar And A Glass Of Wine"), "A day without you" ("My Home Town"), "Think of me in the distance" ("Put Your Head On My Shoulder"), "Cinderella" ("Cinderella") and "Dance with me again" ( -'Dance On, Little Girl"). Also these pictures were not taken with Paul Anka. Even before his title "So wie du" Anka had come into contact with the German language: The soundtrack to the movie of the same name contains the song "Verboten". Here Paul only sings mixed lyrics like"...our love is forbidden" or"...true love cannot be forbidden".
