Who was/is Albert Amnions ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

Albert Amnions, born in Chicago in 1907, was well-documented in our Boogie Woogie Stomp (Delmark 705), sometimes with Pete or Lux. Albert learned to play the piano by playing piano rolls slowly and placing his hands in the depressed keys. His first recordings for Decca were with the band he led at the Club DeLisa in 1936.

He and Pete are in a short called Boogie Woogie Dream with Lena Horne that's on DVD. Son Gene became a bop legend on the tenor sax and Edsel became a bishop. Albert died December 5. 1949. PETE JOHNSON, born in Kansas City, March 25, 1904, was unknown outside Kansas City until his trip to New York for a radio appearance with Benny Goodman and John Hammond's Carnegie Hall concerts. His partnership with Joe Turner continued for decades. with several recordings of the classic Roll 'Em Pete. You can hear more Pete Johnson on Central Avenue Boogie (Delmark 656): his sessions for Apollo Records.

He died in Buffalo, NY March 23. 1967. MADE 'UN' LEWIS, born in Louisville, KY September 4. 1905, is best known for his Honky Tonk Train Blues. Unlike Albert and Pete. he almost always played solo or with bass and/or drums. A move to the west coast got him occasional film appearances, most notable in New Orleans. He died June 7, 1964.
