Englischer Songschreiber, Texter, Schlagzeuger und Sänger. Geboren als James Capaldi am 2. 8.1948 in Birmingham. Bekannt wurde er 1967, als er sich der gerade von Stevie Winwood gegründeten Gruppe Traffic als Schlagzeuger anschloss. „Paper Sun' und „Hole in my Shoe' waren die Hits, die die Gruppe 1967 berühmt machten. In der Gruppe stand Jim Capaldi immer im Schatten von Stevie Winwood und Dave Mason. Erst relativ spät wurden seine Talente als Songschreiber und Sänger auch von den Fans anerkannt - als er 1972 seine erste Solo-LP „Oh how we danced' veröffentlichte. 1974 folgte sein bisher bestes Produkt „Whale Meat again', das im wesentlichen an die ersten LPs von Traffic erinnert, sie aber noch übertrifft. Auf seinen eigenen Platten vermied es Capaldi sorgfältig, nicht ebenso jazzig zu spielen wie es Traffic inzwischen tun.
